SUMMARY:947 Menstrual Cycle Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Dear Cyclist\, \nThank you for choosing Dignity Dreams as your charity for the TELKOM 947 CYCLE CHALLENGE this year! \nDignity Dreams is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO NO: 130-750; PBO NO: 930045377) that manufactures and distributes SABS approved washable re-usable sanitary pads to underprivileged girls and women. By being part of the “menstrual cycle” (riding for our purpose)\, you are helping us to achieve our three goals:  \n\nTo empower our school girls and women\n\nCan you imagine having your period without any sanitary wear? Our school girls deserve to enter womanhood with confidence and knowledge. They deserve to live their lives with dignity throughout the month and not be ashamed of what is happening to their bodies. \n\nEnabling small business\n\nCurrently there are 15 previously disadvantaged and unemployed women who sew Dignity Dreams pads and bags in South Africa. These women own their businesses because we don’t set targets on the units they make\, but we undertake to purchase all their stock. Strict quality control measures are in place. \n\nCaring for our environment\n\nTraditional sanitary towels and tampons are clogging up our landfills and polluting our environment. A cycle normally lasts for 5 days and most girls and women use 5 sanitary towels per day i.e. 5 towels x 5 days = 25 per month. This means that over a 5 year period 1 500 soiled towels will end up in landfills. Dignity Dreams packs will last for 3 years. According to Food & Tress for Africa survey\, we only use 17 trees per year.  \nENTRY INTO THE RACE \nAll cyclists have to enter the race on their own via http://www.cyclechallenge.co.za/ at a cost of R475. You will also have to purchase a timing chip (R140). Entries close 28 September. \nBECOMING A DIGNITY DREAMS TEAM MEMBER \nCyclists who have entered the race and chose Dignity Dreams as their charity BEFORE 31 AUGUST enabled us to register as an official charity bond. These cyclists need not pay an entry fee to become a team member as they are already part of our team. They should\, however\, still contribute towards our fund raising by making a donation (the cost of one Dignity Pack is R199.99) or by finding a sponsor for each km (95 km x R10 = R950\, for example). \nCyclists who enter the race BETWEEN 1 & 28 SEPTEMBER\, and who would like to become part of our team will have to pay a R500 ENTRY FEE. In addition to this\, these team members should also contribute towards our fund raising by making a donation (the cost of one Dignity Pack is R199.99) or by finding a sponsor for each km (95 km x R10 = R950\, for example). \nAll entry fees (if applicable) must be paid into our bank account by 28 September. After this date the team leader will not be able to join you to the team. All donations and funds raised should be paid into our bank account by 19 November. \nOur banking details are as follows: \nDignity Dreams \n\nStandard Bank\nCheque account number: 302914196\nBranch: Hatfield\nBranch Code: 011545\nReference: 947 fee / donation / funds + initial & surname\nPlease e-mail proof of payment to: hein.lubbe@gmail.com\n\n  \nIf you have already entered the race\, you can simply complete our registration form and send it with your proof of paid race entry to your team leader (hein.lubbe@gmail.com). Alternately\, when you enter the race online\, you can choose to do so as part of a “team” instead of entering as an “individual”. Just follow the prompts and choose Dignity Dreams where after we will be in contact with you.  \nCYCLING JERSEY \nWe are in the process of designing a cycling jersey for the team and more details about this will be available soon. We are approaching sponsors to bring down the cost\, and purchasing a jersey will be optional. We do\, however\, encourage you to wear our jersey as this will help raise awareness. \nSEEDING & RESEEDING \nAll cyclists are seeded. This means that they are grouped based on prior race performance and allocated a starting time. Charities are also grouped and given specific starting times (normally between 08:30 and 09:30). You may start on your individual starting time according to your individual seeding or start with the team. If you are not part of a charity and if this is your first race or if you don’t have a good seeding\, you normally start much later. \nSeeding will be done after entries close on 28 September. If you are allocated a starting time AFTER the charity’s starting time\, we can reseed you at a cost of R150 to enable you to start earlier with us (reference: 947 reseeding + initial & surname). This can only be done between 6 & 12 October. If you are allocated a starting time BEFORE the charity’s starting time\, and if you wish to start later with us\, we do not have to reseed you. \nSUBSTITUTION \nA substitution is when an ENTERED cyclist is no longer riding\, and a NON-ENTERED cyclist is taking over the entry. Substitutions can only be done between 28 September & 10 October at a cost of R150 (reference: 947 substitution + initial and surname).  You can simply send the details of the entered & non-entered cyclist to your team leader and he will see to the rest.  \nPOWER ZONE \nWe will have a spot along the route to cheer you on\, fill up your water bottle and provide a snack should you need to refuel. \nIf you have any other questions\, you are welcome to contact your team leader. \nWe are looking forward to have you on our team and to make a difference![]\n \n \n 1\n Step 1\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Contact Us\n \n \n Nameyour full name\n \n \n Emaila valid email\n \n \n Phone Numbercontact no\n \n \n Commentsmore details0 / \n \n \n Submit\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Previous\n Next\n \n \nKind regards \nHein Lubbe
